The Mountaineer’s Journey: The Story of Dhruv Joshi

Born on January 1, 1982, in the serene hills of Almora, Uttarakhand, Dhruv Joshi grew up amidst the majestic Himalayas — landscapes that would one day define his life and career. The son of Shri Yogender Kumar Joshi, a retired BSF personnel, and Smt. Manju Joshi, Dhruv’s upbringing was rooted in discipline, simplicity, and a deep connection to the mountains.

Early Life and Education

Dhruv completed his Bachelor of Science with a focus on Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics from Kumaon University, Nainital in 2001. His interest in technology led him to pursue an Office Automation Package from Tata Infotec Education in 2002, followed by a Certification in Computing from IGNOU in 2003.

However, his true calling lay not behind computers, but among peaks, snow, and adventure. The mountains of Uttarakhand had always whispered to him — and soon, he began his journey into mountaineering.

Mountaineering Training and Formation Years

Dhruv’s formal training began at India’s most prestigious institutes:

  • Basic Mountaineering Course – NIM Uttarkashi (2005)
  • Advanced Mountaineering Course – HMI Darjeeling (2006)
  • Search and Rescue Course – NIM Uttarkashi (2010)
  • Method of Instruction Course – HMI Darjeeling (2012)

He went on to complete several specialized programs, including:

  • Graduate Trip Leader India (NOLS India, 2013)
  • Trainer Leave No Trace (NOLS India, 2013)
  • Basic Skiing Course – PNSSMTI Munsiyari (2016)
  • Medical Expedition Leader Course – IMF (2016)

These experiences built the foundation of a mountaineer who would go on to lead, train, and inspire countless others in the years ahead.
